I'm sorry to disagree with Munty, but I was under the impression that lichen was a sign of health, it only grows where the air is clean, and does the host no harm! But I could be wrong!

All my young apple trees, as a matter of fact all the trees around here have it and nothing seems to be suffering.

Just my 2p worth.
