bleeding comb
« on: September 09, 2011, 11:06 »
Matilda has just been attacked by Betty in the nest box.  She's got quite a nasty cut to her comb and is bleeding.

What is the best course of action?  I'm wary of purple spray with it being so close to the eyes.

thanks.

if you don't have any wound powder (always a good item to have in stock just in case) then dab cornflour onto her comb, this will stem the bleeding and hide any residue blood.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Rather than spraying the purple spray, I take the lid off and using a child's paint brush just dab it onto the cut.  It works a treat and I've used this method on one of my 4wk old chicks near her eye without any problem.
