I've been thinking about this for a while and wondered if anyone knew why
All lives are precious.

I think they are saying "come and look at what I've done, aren't I a clever girl?"   :D :D

:D Best reason i have seen is that it is a contact call , in the wild the rest of the flock would answer and the hen that had just laid could find them.

Females just like to let you know how hard they work . :D

How strange I asked my hubby exactly the same question this morning ...but he couldn't come up with an answer - well a sensible one anyway !  We were haiving our breakfast  with the door open this morning on account of the hot weather and heard one of our girls making a din....don't usually hear them. :D
Dogs were born with three legs and a spare.

Mine do it because they are proud.  Or, because there's already an egg in the box and they want everyone to think its theirs! :D
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

To tell the broody to get her act together and show off how clever and vital to the flock she is?

I think that my girls who are top of the pecking order are the ones who announce and I'm not sure that the others bother.  I also sometimes get one of the girls chuckling away with great delight as though she's laid the best egg in the world and no egg.  If only I spoke chicken, I'd ask them!
