I know chickens go mad for slugs, but what are they like with snails??

Do they know how to break the shells to get into them like what a Thrush/Blackbird does?

Thought I'd ask because we've finally had our first rain for AGES, and every time that happends, snails come out of no where and decide to demolish everthing

My hens love snails.  A couple do hit the shells against the flagstones on the patio but you might find yours will thank you if you smack the snail shell to give them a helping hand (at least until the get the hang of it!).  Strangely mine turn their beaks up at slugs (or the big monster ones at any rate)...
