Leave a bit out in the dish or whatever you are using and they will take what they want. I top mine up as and when 8)
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

My poor chickens - how can they hold up their heads in public - I just throw them the grit and shells on the ground (also scatter a bit of the layers pellets too) otherwise they just ignore their feed and go ranging all day.

Mine are shameful, they always knock over their dishes of grit so now i just chuck it on the floor and they peck it up when they want it.

Maybe I should use mine to "mulch" the plant pots. Might stop them digging the plants out of their tubs and even if they do they would get a bit more grit and shell. Bought a 20kg bag over a year ago and still only used less than half! Really don't seem to be that interested and freerange anyway :roll:

Plant pot covering sounds like a good idea Kate, and it will help protect the plants and keep their moisture in too.
