Hello All,

This is my first year working an allotment and having never grown a thing in my life I was proudly looking at my Broad Beans today to find they are covered with what looks like Blackfly.
What do I need to use to get rid of these?
Any advise will be greatfully accepted

I spray mine with a mild solution of fairy liquid. Seems to work providing the infestation is not too heavy, failing that a spray like Bug off will do the trick.

Hi ratman and thanks for the info.  I tried the fairy liquid trick (I remember that one from when I was a kid) but I think my infestation was too bad.  I've given up with them now.  They were in my garden and not at the plot anyway.  I've got runner beans on the go perhaps I'll buy a can of Bug Off although I was hoping to get away without using chemicals as much as humanly possibly.  Oh well bang goes that idea!

Pinch the tops out of the broad beans and spray the blackfly with a 2% soft soap solution.  It deals with even a heavy infestation.
