Title: mushroom compost

hi need some advice on mushroom compost, on the (posably)abandoned plot next to me there are loads of bags of mushroom compost they look like they been there for years would it be benificial to "rehome" some onto my plot, if so what do i do with it? ive read some opinions that it is not very good and a bit over rated any advice is welcome thanks
