I am no expert on raspberries, sure someone else will be a long soon (when they get up!!), but i got given some, and all but one looks 'dead', one has green shoots only just appearing, so i am hanging on for a couple of weeks to see what they do.
Do they have any little bud like protusions on them ? mine do (not all of them though)
A fellow plot holders look the same way too, so i am hoping that this is normal.
Sorry not much help at all really

I bought 4 canes from homebase in Jan, only to of them hav just got some leaves showing at the very bottom. Am worried about the other 2 to.
Is it to late to buy some new ones and put them in?
-
Am glad someone asked this question. Have 10 each of Glen Prossen and Autum Bliss.
The Glen Prossen are coming through nicely but no signs of the Autum Bliss.
-
i planted joan j (an autumn variety) this spring and no sign of life on mine either...........
so keeping fingers crossed
-
I bought 10 each of three varieties from Parkers and one of them is clearly a faster variety than the other two. I'm not worried yet, as there's not that much growth even on the one that is shooting.
-
I cheated and waited a little bit longer so that I could buy canes just showing the first growth from the root.
Mind you - you do need to soak the roots well if bare stock before planting and make sure that you have something decent in the way of soil to plant them out in.
-
I had the 3 varieties offer form parkers some of mine are showing signs of life. Some of mine have had buds for a month others are only just starting same variety, some will send new shoots up from the base and not show any signs on the cane.
My advice would to be to stick with them, keep watering in dry spells .

Mine from last year are just beginning to come to life - about inch long shoots I'd say at the moment...

I bought four canes from Lidl last year, Raspberry, Redcurrant, Blackberry and erm... Blueberry possibly?
All still look dead. Yet the canes in B&Q and Homebase (my garden centres) all have green leaves on.

Your plants are out in the garden, theirs are stored indoors in heat. 'nuff said. Keep them well watered and they should start into growth fairly soon if this sun continues. Look in the hedgerows for now: not all the trees are in bud yet by any means.
-
Should I water them daily? The top always looks dry by the evening?
I had problems with over watering my veg last year, so what Mother Nature didn't take from me when she broke my mini greenhouse, most died from overwatering.

Watering can be a tricky thing to get the hang of too much too little and it's bad or dead :(
Are your canes in pots or the ground ??
-
In mahoosive pots!
Let me run out and take a pic for you :)
Hope this works:

I bought 16 different varieties of fruit bushes from Lidl earlier this year. They're all doing extremely well with plenty of green growth. The only things I can see that might have helped is: 1) position - they have the sunniest spot in the garden 2) i planted with a good handful of bonemeal in holes 3) I've given them very little water at all.
Hope they sort themselves out for you

My Lidl gooseberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant and raspberries are all doing well. Our established Ken Muir raspberries have full leaves about 4 inches long now, and more canes shooting up from the ground.

Nice pot :) terracotta does dry out quicker than plastic, I'd be tempted to give them a real good watering every other evening for a start, if you think they are to dry scrape back a little soil from the top and see if it's dry 1/2" down, quick way to tell is take a pinch of soil and squeeze it between your finger tips if you see water then they are ok, I use this method with a lot of my plants. If they are dry increase the watering but don't keep them soggy. ;) if they are still soaking wet after 2 days then decrease the watering.

Thanks hun!

You missed one thing, you bought them from a warm shop this year. ;)
Next year they will have beeen in the cold ground all winter.

I planted some yesterday, they took ages to be delivered. There was little green shoots attached. I didn't soak them first though, I hope they'll be okay

Absolutely! I forgot that crucial bit! Also forgot to mention soaking them overnight.

Just give them a good dollop and keep them moist :)

I got given some canes early last month, they had sat outside my mums house for 3 weeks, then in the boot of my car for another 2 (Im soooo giddy!) Luckily my mum had watered them while she had them (they were donated by a woman at her work).
As our lottie isn't in full swing and not ready for them to be planted in the ground i shoved them all in pots with compost and some of the soil I've gone over, watered them loads, and watered them again this weekend, and
I HAVE SOME LEAVES AND LIFE!!
The moral of the story? They seem to be pretty hardy, show them some love as and when you can and I think they will come through!!

I planted mine last year... still nothing.
