i want to make some beer!
« on: April 15, 2010, 18:04 »
ok, were to start....

i have been rumaging thrught my dads garage again (as u do ;) :D) to find some big round conatainers that u leave the beer in to forment or let it do its magic (i think dnt hold me to it). also i have found the little bungs that go in the top hole, the curly glass air things that u put some water in and let it sit on top in the bung thing.

now i am thinking about buyin some hops, barly, yeast extract and brewers yeast (found some in the cubberd but dnt know if its to old or what) and giving it a blast! :D   :nowink:

now this is the hard part, how do i make all theys things into beer plz? and am i missing anything?

anything would be a great help i know nothing!.

thanks,

Josh.

Josh

Home brewing isn't quite as easy as just throwing it all together and in the end you will have beer.

I have had a fair number of successes and a few disasters.

I would recommend popping along to a book retailer and buying a dummies guide to brewing, or something similar, then once digested pop along to your local home brew shop and ask for some more advise, they will probably recommend for a first attempt you go with a kit, which I would also recommend.  The more you do the more complex you can make the process, but start with the basics, or something will go wrong and you will have no idea what it was that didn't work quite right.

That sounds more like winemaking equipment than beermaking. They sound like demijohns and fermentation traps to me.
May be easier to start with a simple wine before tackling beers?
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

they are defonatly for beer, i remeber my dad making it years ago.

i hate wine, so theres not much point in making it, i am going to start with a beer making kit and see were it goes from there.

a good starter beer comes in a kit that is easy to use and tastes great is whoodfordes wherry! so easy just make sure you sterilise everything you use and rinse thoroughly before attempting! :D

ok my dad came home with £60+ worth of beer making stuff :tongue2:
he had 4 beer making kits and 1 cider one for me hehe ;)
and loads of suger and other things we will need in the not to far futer.

ok so we sterilised everything very well, then i boiled 4pints of water poored that in to the bucket, then i added 1kg of suger and the cider kit (the wort) into the water then filled the rest up with water till it was at 21c and at the 8lt mark or what eva the mark was at the top... ::)
then i added the yeast and nutreint.

then we did my dads beer one :D

everything seems to be working, the yeast is actavated and doing what it should be so i hope everything goes well :D

Good stuff!

I got into homebrew in a big way recently. Kits are fine, but you really need to go all-grain and make proper beer if you want the real thing!

Theres some brilliant forums on the internet with people who can tell you far more than any book.

Jims beer kit is probably the biggest but can be a bit impersonal. The homebrew forum is smaller but more personal.

ok now, we transfered the beer n cider into other barrawls with a rubber choob to get it of the bed, then we added abit of suger but i added to much suger to the cider and its just started it off again. so we will have to do it again then clean it and steralize and then put back in, then we put the stopper in the top with the water air lock thing.

i hope everything works out well :D

oh yeah it 40lts each

thanks for the tips jonewer, well i am starting on kits then i will move to make it from grain n hops. then i will evan try grow some hops.

do u know the name of the site to theys fourms plz? i would love to get involved.

thanks,

Josh.
