French lessons given too!  This site is tres bien though I believe the use of the definite article after the verb parler and before Francais as in "parles Francais" is optional.

Some photos of the Orloff and Vorwerk chicks 13 days old now.  Hatched in the Brinsea DX20 Octagon.

The brooder is an octagon made from old melomime fitted wardrode doors.  Note 135 degree triangular fillets in the corners holding the panels together.  Easy to make and break up and store flat too.

Alexandra the Orloff bantam hen is also having a go at hatching 3 of her eggs and a VW egg so we'll see if she's as good as the Brinsea which had a 100% successful hatch from 19 eggs.

Some off the VWs plus the odd Barnevelder and Speckled Sussex.
Obviously Spring is really in the air now as I have 7 broodies in 4 houses currently.

I love the looks of Speckled Sussex too but mine haven't been the best layers and go broody at the first opportunity.  I never got round to getting a SS cockerel so I've never bred them which was my original intent.  I'm a big fan of Sussex generally though, and in particular Buff Sussex, which are big and friendly and great layers too, though like all Sussex it seems inclined to broodiness.

My Speckled , Treacle, has laid daily since February and they are lovely litttle eggs - I hope she doesnt go broody now I've said that  ::)

The VW's are really attractive birds, another to add to the list of birds I want but don't have space for. I need to find a single farmer...  :tongue2:
