Hi everyone, can you just pop a batch of eggs in a nest and the Goldtop will automatically go broody and sit ?
Or do they just generally go broody as and when they feel the urge, just more frequently than other breeds?

I was kinda hoping that i could get a Goldtop to hatch out some fertile eggs but i need to answer the above question before i know how to proceed.

While were on the subject does anyone know a good source of Goldtops around Pontefract Yorkshire ?

Although it is possible to encourage a broody-prone hen to go broody, you can't just sit them on a bunch of eggs and hope for the best

 This is what i was expecting, so i would have to wait until the hen went broody then source some fertile eggs for her to hatch out, would i be able to place fake eggs under her to encourage her to sit and then if/when she is sitting source some fertile eggs?

Also will the hen sit for longer than 21 days ?

We have 3 of these chicks, although I didn't know that's what they were called until now.  They are very broody and I am hoping 1 of them will hatch me some eggs very shortly.  They seem to go in 9 week cycles.  3 weeks laying, 3 weeks broody and 3 weeks doing nothing but there is always 1 of them broody.
