I wouldn`t have bought Ferrari if I`d known they were white seeds, I just dont get on with white seeds. Having said that the ones sown direct are coming up like weeds. I threw them in quite thickly, thinking only a few would grow and now they`re touching in places.

For next year does anyone know of any black seeded varieties?
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

If I recall correctly, the purple podded beans have dark seeds.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Gandan, what's wrong with white seeds? Ferrari are a fantastic filet bean. Very tender, won't go stringy on the plant, and very prolific, all of which is why I grow them.

In a word Trillium, germination, or lack of it. They just refuse to grow for me. I`m surprised all white seeded varieties haven`t become extinct!

For the same reason I steer clear of white seeded runner beans. All my runner seed this year is self saved, varieties unknown, but when I ordered seeds (not runners) from T&M, they had an offer on, 45 Moonlight seeds for £1 instead of £2.99 and I succumbed.

They were sown direct last week, along with some of my own seed, at the end of the row, and I`ll be going to the plot later to compare germination.

Don`t want to worry you FB, but I planted a lot of Blue Lake beans about 6 weeks ago both outside and in the greenhouse and so far nothing.
I can remember when it were all fields round `ere.

My Boston dwarf french beans are white and I've never had a germination problem.
Cheese makes everything better.

This year I did Blauhilde and Cobra French climbers and White Lady runners, all sown in the greenhouse but now planted out, and I had just about 100% germination on all of them.
