The day that cannot be named!
« on: October 25, 2014, 16:21 »
So for the first time ever we are hosting it at ours this year with my husbands small family. Quite excited as I have always wanted to and I often end up cooking most of the dinner anyway so will be far easier (and better!) in by own kitchen. Sadly couldn't persuade my family to come to ours on Boxing Day this year - we still 'have' to go to mums but one step at a time!

I've ordered a free range turkey from a local turkey farm, I will be starting the Christmas puddings this week (I always do these anyway) and I'm just thinking about table linen...

Yay! I can't wait...

Phew! It's gonna be hard work, lots of planning needed - but worth it  ;)

We're looking forward to it, last year we were in Oz with family, and prawns on that day just didn't work for us.
This year we're going the whole hog, everything we can think of.

LOL, we used to grow our own, and sold them.  Last year Brian just grew them for us, and we originally had 30 in the freezers!   ;) ;)

That's the end of them.  He isnt going to do them anymore!  :D

That is what the lady we buy our POLs from said last year.
When we were there yesterday to get 4 more chickens to replace some of ours that dropped off the perch this year, she had 15 of them.

I presume I'll have my parents again this year, they never ask they just assume. Its been like that for the last 16 years so I cant see it changing now.

They all want the same old rubbish, no room for trying new stuff. BORING.  ::)

You are doing the X..s day and you get to choose what you do.

If they don't like it they can do next year. ;)

My mother cooking LOL errr maybe not, she is the only person I know who cooks chops for two hours and then expects the slow cooker to cook her joint of meat in 45 minutes

Its not worth the moaning, it will be very plain with harry and florence but one day I will have the Christmas I want  ;)

OH!!! My mum is like that too.

She is the worst cook in the world.  :(She can burn water.

She does boiled bacon by putting rashers in a pan with water.

Oh the tales I could tell. I could write a book.

So I always do the cooking for high days and holidays. I end up doing most of it if we go to my sisters too.

But I cook what I want to. ;)

Where did you learn all your skills then Mrs Bee? I always wished I had parents who could really cook - but I self taught when I moved out. My parents can cook the basics... But tend to stick to the same easy things - usually a chicken breast, boiled spuds and some veg.

I did learn my roast dimmer skills from them though :)
