Title: small tomatoes
Post by: chickpeacurry on October 25, 2015, 21:11
I have loads of tomatoes cleaned out the greenhouse.  Some of them are small and from varaites which would be much bigger. Will these tomatoes be edible if they turn red. I have put trays in cuboards and they are all going red.  I picked 12lb today of a variety of kinds. Not sure what to do with them all. The freezer is full of tomato pasta sauce. Thanks

There's no reason why they shouldn't be edible.  You could chop them in half, roast them with garlic and oil, then freeze as they are.

I'd agree they will certainly be edible, but probably not as good to eat fresh as the full sized fruits.

If they turn out to be a bit indifferent flavour wise, you could dry them in a very low oven to use like sun dried tomatoes.  Drying anything concentrates sweetness and flavour and can transform foods.

Otherwise there are some good recipes for tomato chutney around.  Indian recipes including spices are usually excellent with tomatoes and again, will boost up the flavours :)

I've had loads of small ones this year down in the south east, I think it's to do with weather, as we had a very cold spot in spring time, stunted start not good for most things apart id say from flowers from seed, they are opening now and look great.
