How worried should we be about .......
« on: April 15, 2011, 10:49 »
I am collecting some hatching eggs today from a couple who at first refused to let me collect any eggs for the fear of being robbed (her words) we eventually came to an arrangement to meet in a neutral location.

My thoughts at first was blooming hell what type of chicken does she keep ? Do they lay golden eggs ? :tongue2:

How worried should we be about Burgler Bill ?

I assumed our biggest threat was Charlie Fox, it had never crossed my mind that someone would actually steal some chickens.

Hi Madclucker,
Welcome!  Yes, there are some people on the forum who have lost chickens to two legged thieves, but generally the biggest culprit tends to be fox/badger/mink.  The woman sounds like she has had a bad experience with people before.  Good luck! :)

There are two ways to look at this:-
I can understand her caution after all she doesn't know you also she doesn't know if you have birds with infections that you could bring to her place.
However you too have to be cautious afterall you really ought to see her flock to see if they are good examples and are not suffering from infections (some can be passed down through to the egg  :().
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thats an excellent point i had not even thought about not being able to see the flock i just assumed they would be ok

The cynical question:

Forget eggs, pretend it is a car you are  buying.
Would the vendor declining to allow you to know where they live and instead wanting to swap car for cash in some neutral spot such as a motorway services car park raise any niggling concerns...?

Ha ha what does she think will happen ?? Grab the eggs and run for it ha ha ha
still on a serious note she must have been had in the past to be so cautious.
just for a laugh I would grab the eggs and make a run for it then go back and appologise fo taking the micky And pay her.
I don't think I could resist
