I've got some sweetcorn growing in modular trays on my windowsill.

They really need potting on now. The problem is that when I pot them on they can't stay in the house. Will they be OK in heated greenhouse and 3" pots. Could they go in a cold frame or polytunnel?

I've been contemplating a greenhouse heater but am undecided yet.

Cold frame and polly tunnel will be to cold at night ,Parasene make a good parafin heater cheap to run just need heat at night.

I have mine in a plastic propogator with the lid on and standing inside a poly greenhouse - warm enough I think, but I am down South. I open the ghouse and take the lids off the propogators in the day.

I'm in the same boat. Will my four shelf plastic greenhouse be warm enough?

My sweetcorn has been in an unheated greenhouse from day one.  They are looking fine and about 2" high.

I started mine chitting this weekend and was going to pop them into toilet roll tubes (about half an inch down) and shove them into the blowaway greenhouse for a few weeks.

When I come to planting I know to avoid the 'collar' of the top of the toilet roll being exposed - but can I bury some of the stem of the sweetcorn, or should I tear it from the card tube?  I know some veg love to be buried deep but some just rot..

Any advice appreciated!

You're safe with sweeetcorn.

Thanks for that! I've been warned off doing it with courgettes, but encouraged to "pot deep" when moving tomatoes to bigger pots.

Would it be only to seed leaves, or when I transplant them to the plot should I plant them as deep as I can to make sure they are well anchored?

So many questions, who knew having an allotment would take so much planning!

I wouldn't worry unduly about courgettes, they're quite tough, but cucumbers can find enough reasons to shuffle off this mortal coil without giving them another one!
