does anyone get to see their hens this time of year?
« on: November 19, 2010, 20:41 »
I let them out before work and feed them and that is it !!will they realise the days are shorter ad that I'm not neglecting them in the summer we would spend hours with them picking them up and now it's 5 minute max a day they don't even get the greens before bed as I'm home well after they go

Pretty similar here.
I let my lot out in the morning, and I have to say they are not too impressed at being woken up!
They are in bed by the time I get back from work.

Similar here, but I start late 2 days a week, so see them briefly before work, and I dont work weekends. Saturday is of course cleaning out day, and they dont like Saturdays  :(
It seems only a few weeks ago that HF recommended a really good head torch for me to help me lock them up at night.

Mine rarely make an appearance before I go to work and are long off to bed by the time I get home as well.

To make up for it on my days off they make a racket every time they see me in the house, every time I go out, come back..............in fact I can hear them now kicking off because they want out for a garden forage  ::)  Best go clean them out and try and keep them from total destruction of my borders - some hope

For 2 days last week I went to work before my lot were let out and I got home after bedtime so I didn't see them at all. (OH was home, just in case you thought they'd been shut in for 2 days ).   When I saw them yesterday, it was very obvious that the turkeys had put on alot of weight  ;) Normally, I see them on the way to work but not when I get home.  Roll on spring that's all I can say  :nowink:

I try to get out to my hens for a bit before I go to work...which is hard!

They do seem to really love human company, when they hear me come out into the garden they won't stop squawking until I go over to them!

Ah, at last a good side to being off work with an injury - I get to see my girls every day! Mind you, they'll probably think I've abandoned them when I get the all clear to get up into a cab again   :(

Same here - weekends are great because I get to see them, chat to them, you know the usual crazy chicken-owner stuff!  I let them out when there is light in the morning and so see them start at their breakfast, and I often poke my head in at night to count them, but that's it.  They usually look at me puzzled.

Looking forward to some more light in a few months...

I'm really lucky.  Apart from the odd holiday I get to be with the girlies every day.  Initially self employed and working from home (ie the chicken run ), and now have awarded myself early retirement, so even more time with them. :D
