I saw the series years ago but can't remember the estate name, but it wasn't Heligan, which was renovated around 15 yrs ago. The Victorian garden was some squire's estate I believe. Never could find a book copy of that series as it was quite ingenious in some of the methods.

Just found this bit on the 'net as I couldn't remember where it was either, but I love the programme when I do get to see bits.  Its wonderful to see how they did things in those days, with no hi tech help!!!

Fascinating series that goes behind the high redbrick walls of Chilton Foliat in Berkshire to follow the restoration of a traditional kitchen garden. Can retired head gardener Harry Dodson turn the weed-choked ground into an efficient and productive plot? Using Victorian tools and techniques and planted with 19th-century varieties of flowers, fruit and vegetables, it's an authentic peek at how things were over a century ago

There is a book which goes with the series and a follow up by Ruth Mott(the cook in the series) which is called The Victorian Kitchen. Both are good informative reads

We also watched the series, how interesting, and how informative it was.

It was a real grand programme to watch, wouldn't it be so nice for a new series to be made bringing the series forward from when it was made in the mid/late 80's to present day, so we could continue to follow its progress.
It would also be nice if the repeated the Victorion Kitchen with Ruth Mott, and maybe do a similar thing as well.

The music to the series was so fitting, the Clarinette was played so beautifully by Emma Johnston I think.

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing, so comforting like a blanket.  :D

I've just been digging through unopened book boxes and finally found my copy of The Victorian Flower Garden by Jennifer Davies, the companion book to the tv series.  The garden location, as mentioned earlier, was Chilton Foliat (but no mention of where that is exactly) and the estate was owned at that time by a deceased Colonel's family.  The Victorian Kitchen contained Ruth Mott's recipes, and the series started as The Victorian Kitchen Garden. I plan to reread my flower garden book and start calling used booksellers for the Kitchen garden one; someone somewhere must still have a copy. Hard to beat the old pre-chemical, pre-machinery ways at times, nor good old common sense.

Ahhhh, so that's why I didn't see your name on the bidding????  Its okay, I told you if you didn't hurry I'd beat you to it, but I won't bid against you.  However, I am tempted by the Amazon ones.  Shouldn't do really, as boracic at the moment, but I would love to have a copy!!!!
