Hi - my Pink Fir Apple spuds are not up yet despite being planted about 23rd March. They are in black spud bags in compost but the other types I planted are all up and have had so much more compost added that the bags are full and I am worried about any further frost. Are they late growers or have I been sold some iffy seed spuds?

Pink fir apple are late season taters and take a while to show. I have just dug a piece of ground and found 5 PFA taters i missed when harvesting , they all had roots 5-6 cm long.

PFA have tall haulms so make sure you keep them upright and not let them collapse.

You'll get a better yield than.

Last year my P.F.A. took 3 weeks from planting [on 10-Apr]  to showing through the soil (and needing some earthing up to protect them from frosts)

This year is colder, so I reckon they should be appearing any-time-now if you have not yet created any ridges to earth them up, and not-for-some-time if you have created ridges already

Mine were planted at easter and are just showing now, better cover them before the frost at the weekend.
