What's going to be your first project this year
« on: January 09, 2010, 21:02 »
Fed up of snow, doom and gloom. Let's look forward. What are you planning to make this year for the first time?

I'm planning marmalade later this month and got the River Cottage Preserve book for crimbo which includes a recipe for an old fashioned fruit shrub (fruit juice, sugar and alchohol) with Seville oranges which sounds yum

My first project is not a cooking one it's a sewing one, making 4 matching tablecloths cos next weekend I have 17 people for a meal and I want the tables to match.

Mango chutney for me, although I have made it twice before, it has been different each time. Then I will look through Val's preserving book, and see what inspires. Ooh, and I am going to make my own Vanilla Extract this year, am going to order some beans from Ebay and get cracking soon.

I'm going to move my bean arch and then I'm going to mend and tidy my greenhouse. And marmalade of course.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

You all sound very productive  :)

My first job is to oil my sewing machine and make myself some trousers that have several pockets and stay on my waist  when I'm working at the allotment.  Builder's bum is not very attractive at my age ;)  I am very disillusioned with what's available in the shops.  Since I haven't made anything but curtains for years, I will be very pleased if I can pull it off  :)

My project is to make things for my Grans Bday - i always give her care packages with produce and things.  Just have to adapt to growing everything in pots in my lil brick garden hehe.

Also - kind of silly but my foody project is making a good beef wellington, i have never yet pulled off a good one!
I hate signatures but love irony

Find an alternative to goose for Christmas dinner. Turkey is a no no, don't want lamb, pork or beef. I am not sure as yet if it will be a bird or mammal. With have had goose for a long time, it needs to feed eight.

Must re-do a few jars of beet jelly that didn't set from last fall. Have procrastinated well over them   Then I'm cutting out the wood I've just bought for 2 bumblebee mansions - anything that helps with orchard pollination - and will finish a 2nd mason bee house made from scrap 2x6's.
