Preparing for thw winter
« on: September 01, 2010, 14:32 »
Hello,

Autumn and winter are soon approaching now and my partner and I want to ger as best preapred as we can. Our chickens are kept in an secured allotment with no battery or electric supply, does anyone have any advise regarding the water/drinkers freezing in the cold weather as they are made of plastic?

Any advise is greatly welcomed and appreciated

Thank you

Empty the waterers over night and replenish them in the morning.

If it is very cold, you may have to visit the allotment more regularly to ensure the water isn't frozen up.

Last winter it got very cold in my area, and water was freezing over in about 20 mins, so I stood over the water bowl four or five times a day to make sure the chickens were getting enough to drink - but while I was at work they had to rely on eating the snow to remain hydrated.
