Hi Sally......The best thing is to have her on her own in a small covered area
then she can choose to leave the nest or not. They usually only leave the nest once a day to feed, drink and have a massive poo!!

Have a look at my posts about Yummy (my broody)  "Broody resting time" and "all set to set some eggs" posted a few days ago.  Lots of my questions and now your are answered there.

I have found out that she knows what she is doing and doesn't need any help (hinderance) at all she has after all been doing it longer than us!! and its a natural act for a chicken.

Good luck with yours, 15 days to go and counting for mine:-)

Hi

20 to 30mins is about right. It is actually good for the eggs if she does this.
I have just hatched 2 clutches from 2 lovely broody hens- mother nature really does know best! I did have to lift them both of the nest once a day - and I did this at the same time each day so they were expecting this. Make sure she has food (mixed corn will be fine) and water close by and you will have chicks in no time!
