Good morning everyone, I'm amazed at how much honey we collected. I built a bar top hive from a picture (also from wood) so the dimensions weren't spot on! It is about 4' long with a full compliment of frames, at first the bees were building their comb and stuck it to the sides of the hive because the hive was too tall for the width (the catenary was all wrong) so I hade to modify to full frames and the bees obliged.
They stuck all the frames together with propolis so it was a struggle to lift the end three out. I only lifted the end three frames and we have more than enough honey to last the year and some left over to try at Methalglin. I only removed about 5% of the total honey available, must leave lots for overwinter.
Cheers, Tony.
