Yesterday I discovered a large cluster of little yellow spiders on my borlotti beans in the greenhouse. They were easy to see so don't think they are the dreaded red spidermite or am I wrong? They appear to have one black spot. Are these a pest?
-
I found some in my garden fence, googled and found they are harmless to human, not sure what they do to plants.
-
The red spider mite is so tiny it's very hard to see the whole little beastie, never mind any spots on it!
Yours are probably a harmless type of garden or house spider.
-
if you can make out a head and a body it's a spider and harmless to plants
if they are more or less one blob they are mites, and MAY be harmful, or may not...
I don't think you usually have mite infestations out of doors...

They are probably baby garden cross spiders -- they will eat masses of flies in their lifetimes :D

We've just found a ball of Garden Cross Spider spiderlings nestling amongst the flower pots. Managed to get a decent photo to help with identification..

I'd forgotten this one from last year.. it's what they'll grow into..

.. they're a really beautiful spider when you look closely at them. It's quite obvious in the adult how they get the name of the Garden Cross Spider.

They are fabulous.
Every year we have a few that take up house around out kitchen window.. mostly outside and occasionally inside
The insiders get fed with flies :D
Thanks for posting the pic Alastair :)
