tomato seedlings 'blind'
« on: April 01, 2009, 17:05 »
I have 2 trays of tom seedlings 5 different types. but i noticed today that a few had 2 leaves open, but no growing point and they had thrown out a new side shoot already

Am i ok to let the side shoot grow as the main shoot, or should i start again....the variety is Ailsa Craig. Seems funny that it's only them tho' same seed pkt as last year and they were ok then

I thought Ailsa Craig was onion seed,so Im no use either!

Strangely, Ailsa Craig is indeed a variety of tomatoes and onions.  I would give it a bit more time and see how the plant develops.  Side shoots can be successfully planted and grow into new plants.  It's hard to advise without a photo.
Cheese makes everything better.

When you say two leaves do you mean true leaves or cotyledon's  ? I'd be inclined to let them grow either way TBH it's not like they are grafted so they still should be true to type. But like Ice says a pic would be nice .. I'm curious now  :)
