Dodson and Horrell feeds are good gear Fred. They make all sorts of good quality dry feeds for dogs etc too. The only problem might be your chooks not liking a change  ::).

I've never heard of Jollies and I suspect unless they are a feed manufacturer they will be badged product from someone else and quite probably D&H. What's probably happened is the manufacturer didn't have stock of the badged pellets and supplied ther own bagged product which is the same.  D&H are a quality feed manufacturer so you should be OK.

HF, have you heard of a feed company called Garvo? they do all feeds and I have heard good reports about them - not organic and I don't know what the eggs will taste like, but at the moment I don't have a supplier near me. They are a dutch company.

Garvo products are superb, however, tbh, unless you are breeding for the showbench I wouldn't bother as they are a bit pricey, just my opinion though. ;)

I don't other than I bought some of their treats at the National which were disgusting ..... had to give them to the chickens who weren't that thrilled either prefering mixed corn.  I'll ask Clare she might have heard of them.

Clare once gave me some boxes of muesli style whole grain bars which Spillers had launched as horse treats.  They didn't sell well and were discontinued and she gave me several boxes of these treats which were close or just passed their sell by dates.  They contained grain and carrot in a chewy honey binding which the chickens went mad for and I must say I was also partial to an odd one.  Although they tasted great, unfortunately they had an unwelcome side effect so I had to give them up.  Let's just say they kept me regular, must have been the molasses.

I'll let you know if I discover anything.

Merry Christmas

Grumpy dad gave his girls some of the garvo treats and they love them.
The spillars bars are meant for horses so assume there was rather too much molasses for you however I bet you could see well in the dark to find your way to the little boys room  ;)

Well their glossy brochures would have you believe they are good enough to eat.  Seems they have a speciality feed for every bird type imaginable out specialising A&P and making commercial feed producers look positively minimalist.  If you are a fancy shower and are switched on by such marketing then Garvo are for you though I suspect you better have deep pockets.  Their fancy bird feed brochure has some pretty impressive pics a sort or bird Vogue.
http://www.garvo.eu/fancychickens/brochure_fancypoultry-showpigeons.pdf

If you really want to see just how far some companies can push this type of marketing then it's hard to beat Global Herbs who even market a supplement which prevents mud sticking to your horses coat as well as having a special supplement for every possible feature of a horse from it's hoofs to it's mane!  See http://www.globalherbs.co.uk/products_agri.htm

Don't worry they've also got a supplement mix for every conceivable poultry health issue too.  Their CALMING FORMULA  "helps birds relax" and can be used for among other things (and rather mysteriously) " specific behavioural difficulties" though they don't say which, and "When birds experience unexpected climate change", or "At any time when birds are exposed to potential health risks" ??, which sounds pretty comprehensive to me.  However don't worry if your chx aren't suddenly surprised by a weather change because they've got lots, 9 or 10 in fact, of other formulas too, which are bound to cover your exact needs.

You can of course buy these products or just do as I do and rely on a steaming cauldron containing bat's wings, toads, the MIL's toe nails and them magic crushed egg shells.

Have fun and don't forget to hang up your Christmas stocking and ask Santa for some of them wonder chicken supplements.

Thanks Joy and to you and yours too.
Well Christmas has stasrted well already. Awoke this morning to find the drains to the septic tank blocked up so I'm off to rod these out now.  Must have been them dastardly horse treat museli bars!! Rodding the draims my favourite job but I guess there has to be a down side to paradise too!
