Title: Manure again.....sorry
Post by: Sideshoot on May 14, 2011, 10:17
Hi,

I have access to free fresh and slightly aged horse and sheep muck, which i collect using a trowel and bucket while wondering round the field/s. Consequently my compost bin is virtually 90% pure manure with a few grass clippings in.
Does the fact that its nearly all poo with no bedding/straw make it better or worse ?

Thx
Paul.

Makes it worserer, but only slightly.  Really could do with some straw to give the soil structure.  But whatever you collect, don't turn your nose up at it !  It's about time I walked the fields and collected Alpaka poo for my water butt.     Cheers,   Tony.

I thought it maybe a little biased on the poo side of things hence the question.
My compost bin is one of those blue water butts with the bottom cut off and is now approx 3/4's full with just the muck ive collected.
Alot of it was very dry and light in weight suggesting it had been out there a while, once it was added ive given it a liberal watering and mixed in a compost accelerator.
Ive been turning it daily but as you can imagine i can only turn it about half way down the bin etc.
