The leaves look healthy enough, its just that beets have a natural tendency to flop when young. So, as Munty says, replant them a bit deeper into another container and you should be okay.

I see you have foil behind them to reflect the light.  Where are you growing them.  How near to the light source are they.

If its a bit dim for them the will become leggy and not have the strength to hold themselves up.  So planting them a bit deeper and increasing the light may help.

thanks folks.

Repotted and hoping for the best

I will plant some directly into the ground too as advised when it warms up a little. i really like beets so dont want to miss out on them.

They are leeks-Musselburgs, Sladefungus, they do seem to be doing fine.

Aunt Sally, they are right next to a window, south facing so they do get a fair bit of light. maybe more foil      the cabbages/toms/leeks all still standing thankfully.

Good luck, Hope they pick up.  I like to sow a few beets about every two weeks directly into the ground so that I have a succesion of sweet roots about as big as a golf ball.  Yum...

Yes indeed - sow them outside as nature intended. Not everything has to be started in heat, in fact with a lot of plants it a bad thing as it makes them very weak.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I agree.

I also have a teeny wee confession ... I have just a few beetroot sown indoors in a cold conservatory.  They'll go outside as soon as they break the surface & will be transplanted at the appropriate time.   This gets me a few beetroot about 3 weeks earlier than ones sown out of doors.
