Iv'e just boiled my first ever beetroot. It brought back loads of memories. My mum boiling up the beetroots that my dad had grown in the garden. Although it was only last year the last time I watched her do it.  :)
Well tomorrow I will be taking them some that I have grown and cooked. I'm a bit nervous though. I hope Iv'e done them right.

try them roasted, just wrap them in foil like a spud and leave them in the oven for an hour or 2,much less mess and i think much tastier
feed the soil not the plants

Fresh beets are great, we had some on friday.

One tip they are dead easy to cook in a pressure cooker. Cooked my medium size beets for 25 minutes at high pressure and there they were ready to peel. :D

Cheers HH
Keep digging

sounds wonderful.. my beets seem to have given up growing as tiny seedlings.. :( they are still there teasing me.

roasting sounds wonderful. Grated on a salad is nice too :)

Also had some shop bought 'crisp' vegetables recently they were amazing, beetroot, parsnip and swede. much tastier than normal crisps.

Nice one - we've just had our fist few small thinnings and it was excellent.

Would be interesting to hear views on roasting - skin on or off ?

Beetroot is much underestimated - it's the queen of veg  :queen:

Skin on just chuck some oil and salt on them and they slip out of the skins on the plate - eat the greens as well wilted with garlic like you would spinach

The wife of the chap who has the plot next to us told me you could cook beetroot in the microwave. I tried it with 3 golfball sized beetroot - it took 6 mins and they tasted great!

They're quite fast growing so you should be OK. Keep well watered this weather.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
