Lidl Fruit Trees
« on: April 28, 2015, 13:27 »
Hi,

What does anyone think of these fruit trees?

http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=22948

I really want another fruit tree to go with the Victoria plum tree I already have.  It's for my decking so needs to be a small variety as it'll live all of it's life in a pot (although the Victoria Plum was a cheap one from Aldi, root stock unknown).

The variety isn't listed so I'm not sure if it'll need a "companion" tree.  There are some other fruit trees in neighbouring gardens which may help.

I personally would not buy plants from Lidl as earlier in the year I e-mailed them for information and the gist of their response was they sell offer items so quickly that there was no point them looking into my query. However, if you bought your aldi plum this year it should be on “St Julian A” or “Myrobolane” root stock. Victoria is self fertile but should crop better if you have another pollinator for it. Hope this helps.

Normally I buy stuff from Lidl/Aldi it's so cheap I take my chances...

I got my Victoria plum tree 3 years ago from Aldi, I had to move house with it last year.   It had lots of blossom last year but not a lot of fruit, the few I did pick were yummy though!

I have two apples and a plum from Aldi this year and a couple of trees from years past. 12 roses with only one bush rose turning out to be a climber so I am all for a bargain. However, cheap in my eyes does not mean that customer services shouldn't bother  ::) Aldi were really good when I e-mailed them  ;)  :)

I've not had to test the customer service of either.

However last year I bought 6 pepper plug plants that turned out to be rather hot chillies!  I meant to email them, but I never got round to it!  At £2 I'm not bothered, but at the same time I'd nurtured these plants for a while and I really didn't need any more chillies as I don't like hot food, more peppers though would have been good
