Lupin Saver

Good afternoon all, i'm off to Gardeners World tomorrow and hoping to come home with some Lupins, the trouble of course is slugs and snails.Iv'e lost all but one of past plants to these slippery little devils. Iv'e tried the dreaded pellets which i hate using, also grit, egg shell ect, what are your favourite deterrents ? I really want to keep the new additions, thanks Cissie
