Title: Emoji on here, giving up using them
Post by: snowdrops on October 02, 2022, 19:33
 I think a switch has got knocked, because for the last couple of weeks when I go to add an emoji at after I have typed anything & the cursor is still there after the last word, it appears at the very beginning ,like this.
My iPad ones haven’t worked for years & I can always tell when others use an iPad because theirs appear the same as mine 😱😱😱. They show up as a picture until I hit send & get displayed as 😊. These don’t turn up at the beginning of the post though as the forum ones do
So what’s going on please

I’m using an iPad now and the forum emojis are going in wherever the cursor is showing for me, so sorry but I don’t know the answer.

I just use the forum ones whether I am using my phone, the computer at work or my iPad and haven’t noticed any issues at all over the last couple of weeks, so not sure it is a forum issue

The forum will only display the onboard emojis, the green pea ones.

If I use an IPad emoji like this one 😃  I see a smiley face until I post it, then it turns into a string of charicters and numbers.  :D

Your ipad ones don't display properly as they're from a different code page to the website and it's been locked down in modern browsers for security reasons. I'm guessing you're picking the forum ones from the images - try using the short codes instead and blame it on an apple update :)

Yes I do click on the green pea emoji. Lards I don’t know what you mean by short codes?
Thanks for replies.

You can insert them by typing their equivalent example :D  is colon followed by capital D ,   is colon ohmy colon ,  colon mad colon.  There's probably a list somewhere but it's easy enough to click one to find the code and then insert it where you need.

Thanks Lards, I’ll see how I get on, but it sounds a bit of a faff so I might be posting neat from now on lol

You might like to memorise the code for your favourite ones.

See what I mean, it's all so complicated.  I think emojis are important.  They can tell a reader more about what context you are speaking.   But if the green peas fail me - I will have failed  :(     ::)  Mrs Bouquet

Maybe it will rectify itself eventually as my posting pictures seem to have done as they now appear to be the right way up from my iPad now. Tbh I did have a new iPad in August but the emoji’s weren’t being naughty then

Don't worry, Snows, I've hardly ever got a pic on here which is the right way round!

Hang on, I'll post the latest one I took while walking Lily with a chum the other day - if it's the right way up, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!

Thanks, Snows! My chum held on to Lils, (she has two dogs running in circles) so I had a free hand and was just lucky! There are some gorgeous sunrises at this time of year!

Those clouds would have been right over you Mum!
