Purple, that would be nitrogen, below 120 miles up!

We don't have much chance of seeing them here.

Apparently they were visible here too but I was tucked up in bed, best with your phone camera it would appear more than the naked eye, might be visible again tonight

Well I stand corrected.
A faint purple haze in the northern sky in the dark hours this morning (I'm nearly always awake before it gets light).

Observed also in Atlanta and suburban areas. Also in Alabama and South Carolina. Somebody who timed it better than me took a photo from Athens, Georgia, included in this story:

I will check forecasts and see if it is
likely to re-appear tonight, might be better observed away from town.
