chard recipes
« on: June 05, 2014, 19:06 »
Growing chard for the first time this year. Coming on well so now, having never eaten it, wondering how to make the best of it. I am a big spinach lover but cant grow it without it bolting. My limited dishes with spinach amount to a side dish with roast or incorporated into a curry of some sort. Any favourite chard recipes out there to get the best out of what looks like a promising crop?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I love it cooked with scrambled egg, in quiche and mixed with mash pot and cheese.

you can serve this over pasta for a hearty, filling winter meal - top with a little grated cheese  ;)

It's nice used in spinach and feta pie too instead of the spinach. It has a more earthy flavour than spinach. I use it in a lot of pasta dished, shredded and added at the end of cooking as you would soft herbs. And in soup.

I love chard and have the same problem with spinach as you do.  I take the central rib out and wilt it, squeeze out the water and use it in loads of ways.  Curries (Saag meat) and quiches among my favourite. I recently made a torte pasquale (BBC has a good recipe)  which was gorgeous
