Title: Allen LRT2300 hedgecutter blade. No spares? The solution.
Post by: Salmo on February 25, 2010, 21:18
I have broken the blade on an Allen LRT2300 long handled hedge cutter. My repairer says they cannot get spares. They tell me that the makers (Allen or Zenoah/Komatsu?) apparently went out of business and the firm that bought up all the spares had a fire which destroyed them.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Does anyone know where I might get a spare blade?

My repairer says that they may be able to replace the head with a similar Stihl.

Any opinions or other options?

Allen definitely went out of business.
I don't know about the fire, but the suggestion that another head can be fitted may very well be correct depending on the type/size of the drive shaft within the aluminium tube. :)

If you post the diameter of the tube  and the size/ shape of the drive shaft within it, hex or number of splines  I can measure a Stihl head to see if it  will fit.

Thanks for replies. The machine is with the repairer so I cannot measure. He thinks it will fit but the cost is obviously going to be more than if spares can be found.

We find the price of just blades is not that far off the price of a complete head,so with the time of the old head stripdown and rebuild we buy new heads.

I had hoped that other heads would fit. My repairer has looked various makes of similar cutters and says that the drive shaft will not fit any he has found.

I have to either find an Allen spare blade/cutting head or replace the machine. Anyone ideas on where I might start searching for spares?

Allen LRTZ2600 also fits.

After trying without success to locate any spare blades I have made the cutter workable by grinding off the two blades that were no longer crossing and shortening the end slightly. Works a treat.

Good morning Salmo

The torquay dealer I tried was Devon garden machinery
phone number  01803 872124

they said that Allens were only an importer and other people
now supply all the spares.
