Curled toe affecting walking, strapping effective?
« on: October 20, 2008, 17:02 »
I have a small pekin cockerel from a friend at a day old hatched in an incky. Well he did have spraddled leg -sorted quite easily. Now he is about 10 weeks old and his third toe has always looked odd -but now affecting his walking significantly. I am taping it as best as I can to try and encourage a better position. Has anyone had any success with this sort of problem?  Or am I fighting a losing battle? (have named him Arnie already  :? )

I think Munty could give you the answer to this one.  I seem to remember he's posted on it before.

I also seem to remember a chook with a toe turned under and the consensus of opinion was to have it removed (the toe that is)   Worth considering if you value the bird  :D

I think you may be talking about my pekin Aunt Sally, she had a deformed toe that went under her foot so she was walking on it all the time and the vet removed it and she is much happier now :D

Have you taped it to the next toe or splinted it?

Thanks for all your replies - I have taped the curled toe to the next toe to give it a more "normal" position. Then taking if off for a fews hours and massaging the toe and leg.
He is a smashing little fella and mobility looks a little better today.
