Rhubarb!!
« on: April 04, 2017, 17:10 »
I planted 2 small crowns last October/ November time and they have produced 4 leaves and are starting to develope stems, Please could someone tell me,"should I remove these stems now,  (to allow the crown to develope more roots), or should I leave them to grow, (thinking that it'll only just push out more stems)".  Thank you, arh.

Leave stems and leaves to grow on, to feed the roots ready for next year.

It would help if you didn't take many more than two or three this season and not many next either. Pulling the stems weakens the crown not strengthens it.

I wouldn't pull any in the first season. just mulch and water.

Thank you all, I will leave it strictly alone, other than mulching and watering, (which it will need down here), thank you again.
