Cukes are lazy things and sometimes they'll hook onto the line, sometimes they won't, so every few days I make a point of sorting out their mess and wrapping them around the line. They'll usually stay put until new growth decides to wander off and I have to  wind those back onto their own line.

My personal experience with the frame is that the cukes did very well with a few shovel fulls of old manure, some thick straw mulch and regular watering (our summers tend to be very dry here). If they don't get enough water, they literally shrink at points, so watering needs to be regular unless you're in a heavy rain area. Lots of rotted manure gives them a very sweet flavour.

Thanks trillium. Will watch for that if I get some going this year. Need to dig a bed and build the frame first! :D

I grow mine IN BIG POTS up the plot shed with a ramshackle arrangement of sticks or canes and string and tie them in as they grow up it.  Once they show signs of fruiting the pots get top dressed with some manure

You have to pick them regularly to keep them cropping  :)

Mine ended up climbing to the roof of the greenhouse and along the ridge inside, then out of a vent and down the slope

The ones inside were great as long as you remembered they were there as you stood up, but the ones on the glass got pecked by birds --possibly blackbirds

outdoor cukes grown indoors

This is what we have done a few times and with a good degree of success, with Marketmore.. Trying a new variety this year, also indoors. :)

That's the ones. :)
Did the same with a patio variety aubergine - grew it in the greenhouse - think I overcrowded the greenhouse though!

Cucumber plants always look like they're going to shrivel up and die when I've tried them - and all but last year they did!

Some say, you're not supposed to grow cukes and toms in the same greenhouse as they like conditions but my father-in-law manages perfectly well each year! ???

That's why you need to grow them on a Munty frame, Sunny   :D The birds hate hanging upside down to get at them.

I didn't have any bird damage on mine outside - am hoping they won't develop a taste for 'em this year!
