I had a good day, it was a hospital day for my mother in law, she has gone to 6 monthly checkups at the Marsden now - 4 years on and still clear.

Not more to do, just less time to do it in! It has now been scientifically proven that the older you are the faster time is perceived to pass. At this rate by the time I get to about 80 a year will only be about ten days in length lol

I'm nowhere near 80, but I swear I only have 20 hours in my day.....and I don't think my week has 7 days in it any more! 😯

I'm not working and am having a very relaxing day so far. Just visited the garden centre down the road with a fistful of vouchers and came out with a huge haul of stuff that cost me 97p :D Nothing exciting, unless you are a gardener, but all stuff I needed. Just off to play in the greenhouse after I finish my coffee ;)

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I had a lovely, restful day, with an enforced absence from the plot thanks to the torrential rain. We decided not to have the required number of candles on the cake as that would have needed a risk assessment beforehand, together with the presence of the local fire department on standby. Granddaughter, aged 3, decided that the entire packet of candles would suffice, and put them all on (in) the cake, with just enough of the candles left showing to be able to light them! A lovely day.

Aaaaaw thank you one and all!
I've had a fabulous, great birthday, starting with cards and a couple of pressies, then Mrs Growster and I went off to Woodchurch (near Mumofstig's) to collect an electric bicycle which has been on top of my wish list for years!
I only married Mrs Growster in 1972, and she still amazes me with her decisions, so I'm the luckiest bloke this side of the Appalachians...
And talking to our daught and everyone today has made a lovely day for me - thank you all; you're a special bunch of chums, and I'll always remember this!

Celebrations very much affected by the weather - managed to host a barbecue on Friday evening, but spent my birthday morning with my arms in my pond up to my shoulders trying to help my goldfish which I'd noticed were all gasping for air at the surface. Heaved out the overgrown water lily along with handfuls of slime, cut it down to size, siphoned off half the water, and topped up with rainwater from the butts. The fish seem happier now. ;)
Started raining then, so instead of the planned day out, went to see the Jason Bourne movie in the afternoon, followed by a few tinctures and a Chinese takeway in the evening.
Cakes for dessert of course - they were lovely, thanks!

Leisurely morning, then lunch at the Theatre Royal before seeing a friend in an absolutely fabulously hilarious production of Sheridan's 'The Rivals' (this is the play with Mrs Malaprop in, who constantly gets her words muddled) :lol:
Then posh meal courtesy of M&S, followed by a friend coming round with cake in the evening. Yum yum indeed :)

Busy with laundry after three weeks away -- never ending number of loads to do, it seems!
Have some beautiful marble coasters inlayed with semiprecious stones and mother of pearl, which are truly gorgeous, as a present from Mr S, and the leeks and onions have germinated in my absence so am very pleased all round.

Bushmills is a good Irish single malt whiskey.... great flavour and a drop goes a long way on a decent coffee.

Thank you very much for your good wishes, and what a lovely day it has been. Brilliant sunshine all day, and we went out to a garden centre and stayed for lunch.
Next year it's the big 70, but my mind still only feels about twenty, it's a shame my ankles, knees and hands feel about 90, but one can't have everything. Age is just a number, isn't it?

Many thanks and apologies for missing the birthday wishes but had a not expected, 65th birthday! First of all John sent out a reminder on books in time for X-Mas which resulted in 58 books for me to print out labels, check on paypal and mark as sent and pack with right seeds (some were doubles, triples and quads and needed different seeds) and get down to the post office! Plus we'd managed to arrange Bryan for Friday to paint the ceiling in the kitchen/diner which involved taking down curtains, curtain rods, all the stuff in the walls, emptying and removing books shelves, removing chairs, and goodness knows what else so was rather hectic! We're still in chaos now.

Thank you for your birthday wishes. The big 60 this time (scary!!) but my two lovely daughters threw me a party and we all had a wonderful time. Mum and Dad had a bit of a dig at me being a pensioner now, but as I explained to them, as I can't retire for another six years I can't be classed as that yet!

I find that being over 60 gives me a lot in common with my under 6 grandson..
Neither of us like healthy eating and both of us find that when we have to go, we have to go NOW! That's not all.. both of us have to do what Grandma says and neither of us likes tidying up :)

Midwife rang back and asked if it was me who called :)
She duly arrived and said there was a while to go so we settled down to watch Tora Tora Tora on the telly.. just as the battle started the midwife suggested it was time to head for the hospital :(
So off we started and halfway down the road Val asked me if I'd picked up the bag...
I duly did a handbrake turn and we headed back, picked up the bag and then started back. This was when Val said we should hurry and and I put my sporty car through its paces - hitting about 80 mph in 3.6 seconds. Arrived safely at the hospital.. beating one quite confused midwife by a few seconds.
Not too much longer before the sprog arrived.. Now I had it in my head that the bump was going to be a boy so I stared in horror at my poor new son who was missing a vital part! :ohmy: Then I realised that he was a she and all was well :) It wasn't that I particularly wanted a boy, I was just sure bump was a boy.
Midnight I was stood outside the hospital feeling like I'd been hit by truck - like WOW!!!
Some memories never fade.

I thought it might be nice to actually describe the day. I still miss the car.. but you couldn't get a carry cot in the back so it had to go. The sacrifices we makes for our children :D

Thank you all. I did ask for a lie-in as a present, but alas a 4 year old thinks this is not much fun and 5.30 starts are the way to go on birthdays :ohmy: ::) :D Gabe also decided we should spend the day at a local kiddies theme park and so I spent the day going on water rides over and over, with a very wet bum by the end!

Thank you all for your lovely birthday wishes. I am 70 today, so I guess I am now officially an "old dear", although most of me still feels about thirty, except for my legs and feet which feel about ninety most days. Unfortunately, all of me looks about 70 :D.
Had a day off from the allotment today, and we've just had a visit from my daughter-in-law and our granddaughter, so I've just spent a happy hour or two watering her little garden with her "very own" watering can, being fed load of birthday cake and chocolates to the point of feeling a bit queasy, playing with the play-doh and making animal masks. The birthday candle has been lit and blown out so many times it has almost melted totally, and I can't tell you how many times she has sung "Happy Birthday" to me. I have even been allowed to "feel my wobbly tooth, Nanny". She is really excited at the prospect of a visit from the tooth fairy.
I feel very fortunate to have such a lovely family, they have quite made my day.

Aw! Thank you all for your good wishes for my 70th birthday. I had the most amazing, stupendous, fantastic, extra-special time that words cannot express. Previously my OH suggested we went for a two night stay at Tom Kerridge's pub in Marlow (the Hand and Flowers) and it was AMAZING!!!! Then we stayed with our rellies nearby for a few more days which turned out to be yet another brilliant time. My OH absolutely excelled himself in what he did to make my time so special as did the Hand and Flowers but …. I never in my wildest dreams expected a personally-signed Hand and Flowers beer mat from Tom Kerridge himself wishing me a lovely 70th birthday with two kisses underneath!!! At the moment, the icing on my cake must be three miles high at least.

With yesterday having a poor weather forecast and being a Bank Holiday to boot, I decided not to plan a day out, so in the absence of a new Bond movie we went to a cinema to see the latest Mission Impossible film. Unfortunately we hadn't booked in advance and many others had also made the same weather-beating plan... :nowink:
Went home to my friend's house and watched an old Bond movie by way of compensation, then some nice presents, a tincture or three, and a home made curry. :)

Thanks all, rain didnt stop play at all, I got drenched busting up a newly dug bed, one that's being prepared for spring bulbs and meadow seed. Wanted to get it done while the soil is still workable. Good excuse to have a cheeky bottle of Weston's vintage in the polytunnel after to rehydrate though ;)
