Hiya

We have been given a shed for our allotment and it's a dark color and we're wanting to paint it a lightEr color.

Can I just paint over in 1 coat or is it going to take several?


That's how we left it, need to finish windows and then paint it.

Depending on the colour you should be ok with 2 good coats if you let them dry out properly inbetween. I went over navy with white last year and that took 3.

Duck egg blue I think we want. But I might just out a dark stain on for the quicker lol

Hopefully doesn't apply to yours, but if it's a very old shed some or all of it may have been painted with creosote, which is almost impossible to successfully overpaint with water-based shed paints.
Oil-based treatments would be a better bet if that were the case.

My shed is extremely venerable and was a suspiciously dark brown in colour - I mostly got away with using a water-based paint because it had been left for so long without further creosote treatment the wood surface was bare and dried out in most places.
