What bottles are you thinking of using?
We use old lemonade bottles (the clear plastic ones)
They can withstand an enormouse amount of pressure, and you don't have the danger of glass  ;)

Plastic for me too!. You can put the screw  top back on a 2 litre bottle and put it back in the fridge. You don't have to drink it all at once. and if it get's a bit flat as the level drops put a mustard spoon of sugar in. Don't shake it!

We used glass bottles as we never thought of plastic ones. The barrel only lasted a week. And the bottels only lasted a couple of hours :D.
Just started a new lot.
Thanks for your help

PET bottles make excellent homebrew recepticles, but if you use clear ones remember that light can have a negative effect on your beer, so keep them in a dark place until you are ready to open them.

I know I have said this before, but worth repeating - if you decide to recylce commercial beer bottles make sure that you use a lever type crowning machine, don't use the cheaper hammer on device as the bottle rims are much more fragile than proper "home brew" bottles. They are after all made to minimum cost for single use, whereas homebrew bottles are made to be used time and time again.
I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.

Just a little story.
Years ago in our young days my partner decided to make ginger beer and bought a kit.
Did the right thing and set it up THEN decided to add fresh ginger. She chopped up a huge piece and left it to ferment. She borrowed about 50 of my empty beer stubbies and bottled it. We tasted it after a few weeks and it was awful. After a year she went to visit her sister for a few weeks and I decided to knock up a beer brew. I started emptying them down the sink and had a taste. I stopped quick smart - it tasted like fine ginger champagne - truly delicious. I didn't bother with the beer . Needless to say there was only a couple of stubbies left when she got home.
