Can I ask you how long  it takes for our chickens to lay an egg? I have on who is taking longer and longer each day.
She has been in her egg box for almost 4 hours so far today and hasn't even surfaced for a drink! She does pull out loads of feathers too - do you suppose she's alright?
I do pop in and check on her when she's been there for 2 or more hours - and she looks at me like I just caught her sitting on the toilet!

Could she be broody?
Is she fluffing up her feathers and growling at you when you go to touch her??

The longest mine stay in for when laying is a hour

I think they lay every 25 hours
with mine that is the case then they have a whole day off before starting again early next morning

Think that makes sence???

like clockwork mine usually.  They don't generally hang about as they go off in search of grub once they've laid

I don't imagine she's going broody. She's still quite young - something like 26 weeks, maybe a little more.
It's quite specifically laying time, once she's left her egg she'll be out for the rest of the day.
She's not bad tempered either - just a little indignant when I peep at her!
She's top-hen - do you think she might be hogging the egg box to stop the others from using it?
