Title: Italian seeds
Post by: firenze on August 02, 2006, 15:58
Hello everyone - I have two 5-pole plots here in Newbury and specilaise in Italian produce...I'd be glad to swap information on crops (for instance doing green lentils, chick pea, various red chichories etc. for first time this year). I've learned to keep chick peas dryish. Conversely - I've managed to grow Lima beans! They've produced good pods and seeds are forming.
Also, does anyone know of good shops for seed in Italian cities? A good seed selection seems a rarity - espcially in cities. Too often a trip out to a garden centre outside of towns disappoints, with just a mediocre selection of seeds from Vilmorin. I'm off to seven Italian cities at end September and will report any finds.

We grow Lima beans every year, no problem. Also, for Italian seeds, try the internet - Seeds of Italy - No problem either.

We have two Italian people on the allotment and there great, water my plot when I'm working late, close or open my greenhouse door when it is hot/cold, put my spade away that i for get, even phone me if we have vandals, plus order manuer, give me plants to try and grow and some times lock my shed that i leave open.
For all this I just rotavat there plots when needed.
Shame I can't speak Italian to them some time.
