Glazing Tape?
« on: February 13, 2010, 14:45 »
Hi fellow forumers,
I'm a newbie and I have a question that I can't see the answer to in previous threads. In the next few weeks I'll be putting up a second hand greenhouse. It does not have any glazing tape behind any of the glass at the moment. What are the benefits to using this stuff? I could imagine that it may cushion the door bumping closed perhaps? Does it keep any heat in?

most greenhouses have a rubber rather than a tape.

the ruber either sits onto a lug or sits into a resess.

i have seen tape used on greenhousews but only te more modern wooden ones.

can you tell us a bit more info maybe please?
2 allotments, long standing back problem, am i mad?

Two of my 3 alloy greenhouses have a tape strip glazing bead.
In my opinion the bead is most important as a GH does not become totally stable until it is properly glazed . The friction between the glass and frame cushioned by the bead is what does this.
If your going to the trouble of errecting it, do it  once, well and its a job well done!

Thanks all for your speedy replies!
I think that the tape that I have seen on greenhouse supply sites is placed against the rebate on the glazing bars, like you would use putty. I can't seem to find it on metal frame greenhouses but could understand its use on timber frames, no need to mess around with putty? I think that I'll glaze the frame without tape. The clear silicone idea sounds good though.
just found a link on articles page for glazing strip! Two wests sell it!
