Anybody know anything about growing Florence Fennel,  Cook in't Big House wants me grow some

i grew it last year celtic.sown it in pots in early april under cover then planted it out in june, i sown the whole packet about 20 and it was ready all the same time :oops: .it was nice with home made colesaw,shredded cabbage,shredded fennel and lots of mayo,also it was ok steamed with fish,it has a strong flavour though,well worth a go.

Grew it in old allotment with poor soil and it thrived.  Last year I grew some in the garden with good soil and it bolted.  Probably more to do with the heat than the soil.
Fennel is great baked with things like sundried tomatoes and goats cheese.  If you would like a recipe I would be happy to supply one.
Cheese makes everything better.
