Hi, it's been quite mild & wet here. I planted my garlic in october/November, popped along the other day& noticed most of the tops are yellowing. Is this due to the amount of rain? I'm lucky that the plot isn't waterlogged & I can work the soil so the drainage is pretty good. Also I was wondering whether to give them a feed as the weather is so mild? I didn't have time to do much to the soil before I planted as only got the plot in October.

Mine are yellowing at the tips too. But still growing. Nearly a foot tall now. And yes I have been feeding mine. I am really pleased with how they are progressing and despite the yellow tips, they look happy.

Quite normal for over wintered garlic. A nice feed will bring them on.

Mine are the same too.

I will give it a few weeks and give them some BFB unless someone can recommend something better.

as BFB is a slow release, it might be better to perhaps put it down now so that come spring proper, some of the nutrients will be available when the plants really get going.  I find a little extra potash good for garlic and onions - I read somewhere it helps to bulk them up, but more importantly, helps to keep fungal / rust problems at bay (after such a mild wet winter, rust is most likely going to be a problem this year I think)  See growing instructions from The Garlic Farm (they should know their business  )

Sulphate of potash does seem to help them ward off rust, which has got to be helpful

Mine were doing the same so I gave them some BFB as well - can't beat a bit of BFB

Gave mine some sulphate of potash and what I noticed is that a good few worms came up, they really did not like it.

that makes sense - the sulphate would acidify the soil (which is what keeps fungal problems at bay) and apparently worms do not like a drop in pH.  Going off topic a bit but I found this article about earthworms and soil fertility interesting

I don't really like using man made fertilisers. Do you think some comfrey feed would do the same thing?
