Whats the difference?

I'm looking to be doing some major DIY shortly, and I'll be needing a decent quantity of sand to do various types of building work, both brickwork - concreting and flag laying.

But just wondered which one is more 'universal'?

I don't really want to get 'so much of this and so much of that'.

Maybe one of those dumpy bags sizes, (I think it works out cheaper).

OH uses yellow builders sand for concrete and for slab laying, if that helps

Its just the grade of particle, sharp sand is larger. This makes it stronger in the mix but less easy to work (if you're laying a brick etc) and gives better drainage.

I use soft/building (same stuff) for brick/block work and sharp for mixing with aggregate for concrete or laying flags dry.

If you only want to buy one - go with soft building sand.
