What can I make with piping?
« on: April 17, 2013, 20:57 »
I wanted some blue pipe to make netting so put a request on freecycle. A very nice local guy has just dropped off the 20-30m of blue pipe he said he has but has also dropped off 15-20m of the larger yellow pipe (might be more but it is in a coil) and another 30 or so of the thinner white pipe.

I will obviously use the blue pipe as planned but is there anything I could use the other pipe for? If not I will offer it other allotmenteers

If the bigger pipe is 50mm or above , you could make a poly tunnel.

Cut the bigger pipe into 1ft lengths. You can then hammer them properly in to your soil and use as a holder for the smaller pipe loops - it avoids struggling to push the pipe into the ground

Thanks for all the replies. I hadn't thought about using the bigger pipe as something to slot smaller pipe into - I was going to force bamboo canes into the ground and put pipe over these but your plan sounds longer lasting.

The yellow pipe is probably 35mm or so across from memory - I haven't actually measured it but the idea of a polytunnel sounds interesting so I will look into this - I will also look at some if the other ideas posted on the web link.

Looks like other allotmenteers, won't be getting access to the pipe just yet!

Why not put short sections of pipe, if you think they are large enough, over leeks to get a good white stem.
