i did a bakewell and put some halfed figs in it the flavours went realy well .

Fig tarts are delicious. Have you thought of adding some rosewater to the almond mix?

Gives it a middle Eastern twist. ;)

WHat about halved apricots and then stud the top with the blanched apricot kernals.

That's just reminded me that I used to make it with apricots many years ago, although I used the ones that are tinned in juice (not syrup).  It worked well with the ground almonds, and the blanched apricot kernels would make it extra special  :)
