Solidarity with the people of France on this terrible event.

Very upsetting.

It is terrible to see the destruction.  I've visited it and been inside to see the interior and museum, which was amazing.

It is a fantastic building inside and out and an iconic landmark for the city.  The rebuild will take many years.

A sad historical loss.  It was amazing both inside and out.    Can it ever be like the Pheonix - and rise again from the ashes.   Mrs Bouquet

Always sad when historical buildings suffer damage. I hope the company that were working on it were well insured so it can be rebuilt, just like Windsor castle was.

For anyone that uses Twitter here are some pictures taken inside, to show some of the damage and what is still standing, once the fire had been put out. Amazing that anything is still left considering that some of it had already been judged as unstable before the fire...

I was such a dreadful thing to see, especially when the spire came down in flames. It will be re-built but the beautiful medieval timbers and other things like paintings etc can never be replaced. A very sad loss indeed.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I believe there were a couple of injuries but thankfully no deaths!

The scale is much bigger, but it brought back memories from 35 years ago, when York Minster was struck by lightning and lost the roof of one transept (cross bit).  I remember being on holiday with my family the following year, and seeing some of the trusses ready to be hoisted back into position over the roof.

I heard in today's news that the 3 bee hives on part of Notre Dame's roof survived intact, and that the bees are still flying in and out.  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

As I have already said, it is indeed a sad event, but fortunately not lost for ever.   But whilst the French will understandably want to contribute financially to its rebuild, along with others of fame, who have pledged their money, I do wonder, what the reaction of the aforesaid was,  when Windsor Castle, York Minister etc were fire damaged.  Mrs Bouquet
